Cavalry Camp. Bladensburg. Md.
May 25. 1865.

Captain.
A day or two since I called upon Gen'l. Howard to ascertain whether. after leaving the military service as I expect to do very soon, I could obtain any position in connection with the Freedman's Bureau. He told me that he was fully supplied at Hd. Qrs. and thought that the Commissioners of States would be the persons most likely to be able to give employment to a [[strikethrough]] citizen [[/strikethrough]] civilian. He advised me to select the field I should prefer to labor in and then correspond with the Commissioner of the State selected in relation to getting some place. I therefore take the liberty of addressing you.

I would like very much to labor in connection with the Freedmen's Bureau and for many reasons should prefer the counties of Fairfax, Loudon and Fauquier as my field.

The vast numbers of freedmen brought [[strikethrough]] up [[/strikethrough]] by the war to the District of Columbia and its immediate vicinity must soon after the complete restoration of Peace begin to spread themselves over the neighboring country. At the present time a great part of the cleared land of Fairfax County is untilled for want of laborers, much of it is in possession of the gov't.
