Colonel,

The General desires me to write to you that the Secretary of War informed him, verbally, that all the families of negro soldiers sent to Texas, would be allowed to follow.  Transportation and subsistence for the voyage will be furnished by the government.  It is expected that a Commissioner for Texas will be appointed before the departure, who will, of coure, do all he can for their good after arrival.
