I found the negroes had no one to oversee, them and as long as rations were dealt out, they cared but little for work. The system I have inaugurated promises much good, and will tend to educate and elevate this most unfortunate class of our population. I hope to be able in a few weeks to give a more extended and better report, of affairs at the Whitehead farm.
