Norfolk Nov. 9 1865

My dear Colonel 

As a great many stories are floating about Norfolk, I thought I would post you up in matters which seem to concern you. In the last few days I have been asked by several parties if it were true that you had "sold out" to Taz. Taylor. I use the precise language that was spoken. 

Then to my great surprise a gentleman informed me yesterday that you had made a contract with old Taylor, by which you were to let him have all the Government property on Taylor Farm, in consideration of one half the amount that property might bring to be paid to you. Of course I endeavored to show the absurdity of this, but such a story is in circulation and may do you harm. 

Several strong Union men have told me that already a petition is in circulation among the Union men, for the President to remove you. There may be little in this, but I know there is at present
