Fredericksburg Va Nov 28, 1865.

Genl. O. O. Howard
Freedmens Bureau.

Sir.

The undersigned learn with regret that Capt. D.W. Bohonon 2nd N.H. Vol. now in charge of Freedmen for the district of the Northern Neck in this state, is about to be mustered out of service along with his regiment. As Radicals of the "strictest sect" and not unknown to your Bureau for our efforts in behalf of the Freedmen, we emphatically declare that Capt Bohonmon is in every respect the best man for the place that we among our many radical friends could select, and therefore we earnestly urge that he may be retained in the service, and continued in command of the district which he fills so well. Indeed we were about to write you that this county might be added to his district, and should have done so but for the order mustering out his regiment. This last is perhaps the best evidence of our opinion as regards his fitness for the station he fills, but we will qualify it by saying that the Captain is very Radical, is intelligent, temperate, humane, and in full sympathy with the Freedmen, at all times and in every possible manner protecting them against the wrongs and outrages which is attempted to be heaped upon them by their former owners, and their pro-slavery sattelites. So popular is Capt. Bohonnon in this town, that if necessary to retain him we will forward you a Petition signed by every loyal man and freedman. If you require this please inform us, and we will send it immediately.

Very Respectfully
