than a few days. To investigate this it seems necessary to know the date of the alleged loan, if not to whom it was made.
2d. "That he is known to have received $45 for which he rendered no account to the Government." I respectfully suggest that among the thousands of articles sold by Capt Barnes and very numerous accounts and vouchers it will the wholly impossible to reach a transaction of $45 so vaguely alluded to.
3d. "Sold large quantities of Govt lumber worth $75 per thousand feet at $25 per M." Capt Barnes is believed to have made sales invariably by auction and known to have advertised extensively. If there are any instances of private sale, or fraud in sales, it might be discovered, if time, place and name were given, or any approach to specification, but, I cannot see how there can be a beginning without some clue.
4th "That he keeps five private horses." That matter has already been reported upon from these Hd Qrs and very recently. Please if possible send me further information.
I am General, very respectful
