Norfolk July 2d 1865

Colonel
I have concluded to go with you. I can be ready at the time I stated to you. I would much prefer that you should apply for me at Washington - for the reason that I am now in good place, and if relieved by orders from General Terry, and there should be any possible obsticle afterwards to my being ordered permanently to you, it would throw me out of place - and being out of place I should get a poorer one, or be mustered out of the Service - I will go on and close up all matters here as rapidly as possible, just the same as if I had the order - so that it will cause no delay in my going to Richmond
