Norfolk Va July 20th 1865

Colonel 
I am am surprized at not receiving any orders up to the present time, - especially as your dispatch informed me that they would come immediately. Will you please inform me, if you know, whether I am going, or not. A state of uncertainty is not pleasant. 

If I am to go, I trust that you will have quarters for me when I reach [[strikethrough]] Norfolk, [[/strikethrough]] Richmond, I can not afford to pay $4. a day, at a Hotel each for myself & wife, while awaiting arrangements - or accommodations. I am ready to go on very short notice - and wonder I do not receive the order. 

If it is impossible to give me good quarters, at the moment, you will do me a great favor, if I am going, if you can find me a good boarding House, where I can go on arrival. I would, however, much prefer good Quarters. I am anxious to hear from you - not understanding why I do not
