Others work by thinking, and planning, and writing. Don't you find it pretty hard work just to learn to read and write a little? The rest who do not work are bad men or helpless ones. The bad men [[strikethrough]]steal[[/strikethrough]] are idle, or steal, or do other wicked things and get punished for breaking the laws, but neither you nor I have the right to punish them in any [[strikethrough]]way other[[/strikethrough]] other way than the officers of the law may declare to be just, and order to be done.

The helpless ones are those who have nobody to take care of them, and cannot take care of themselves: and they appeal to our feelings and charities, and we help them by giving food, clothing, and medicine; and of them are many of them we provide large houses when they can be [[strikethrough]]nursed[[/strikethrough]] nursed and cared for under the law which was made for the support of them who are so poor as to be called paupers. But every right minded freeman will work very hard to keep out of the "Poor-house," and harder yet to keep his father, mother, brother, sister, wife or children out of a place where they must live on alms given by strangers. So you see a free people is a proud people; not wickedly proud, but knowing that God has given them freedom for themselves
