Col. Brown directs me to inform you, that a Publick meeting was held at Lawrenceville C.H. by the Citizens of Brunswick Co Va., on the 31st day of May 1865, having for its object, the regulating the employment of Freedmen in their midst.

Enclosed please find a list of the names of those present at the meeting.

The Asst. Commissioner directs, that you thoroughly investigate and report, whether any change has taken place in the feelings of these people, with regard to the employment of freed labor
