October 4th 1865. File Brown. O. &c. Requests that an ambulance be furnished to convey teachers to & from the schools. of any being detailed for this service. Wm. L. James Col. & Chief Qr. Mr. E&M #350 Page 129 Bk 2. Respectfully returned to Col. O Brown with the information that there are only (10) ten ambulances [[strikethrough]] if [[/strikethrough]] in [[strikethrough]] posession [[/strikethrough]] posession of the Qr. Mr. in the city and that only one tenth of that number is allowed for use in this Bureau and that is constantly employed in convening the sick to Hospital [[strikethrouhg]] and [[/strikethrough]] H s Merrell Richmond Va Oct 13th 1865 Respectfully forwarded to Col. W.L. James Chief Quartermaster. The distance is too great for these Teachers to walk (about one and on half miles) They cannot be provided with quarters nearer their School House I therefore deem this transportation necessary O Brown Col Asst Comr Chief Qr. Mr's Office Dep't of Va. Richmond Va. Oct'r 13. 1865. Respectfully returned to Col O. Brown Asst Com'r. & c. with the information that the number of ambulances now in service in this Dep't, will not admit
