July 24, 1865

Sir:

I have the honor to report in obedience to endorsement order on Statement sent herewith the following facts relative to matters contained in said Statement; that I proceeded to take the Statements of persons herein named.

Joseph H. Turner Esq

Says that the woman "Martha" was not on the wooden horse over two hours, had her clothes underneath her, so that she could not receive any injury; it was only punishment by disgrace. her husband was not on the horse over half an hour,- did not see any logs tied to his legs.- White persons have been met with same punishment as colored.

Isaac N. Turner.

Says that he keeps a Store under the Guard - house, and that the woman "Martha" was not on the wooden horse over two hours. thinks that her position would result in no injury, it being such that she could lean up against the porch with her back, her husband could not have been even half an hour on the "horse"- did not see any logs tied to his legs- has seen white persons on the horse also, punished in the same manner as colored persons.
