the investigation he replied that he wanted to come but he could not borrow a horse, I then told him to appear with his witnesses on Tuesday the 27th inst; when I would again try and investigate the case, I have notified Vaughn & Massey to appear again on that day, I do not think Wyatt will appear, he thinks I should give an order to take the horse without investigation, In a great many cases the Freedmen fail to appear on the day set for trial of their complaints and come sometimes after, to make excuses which are generally trivial, and ask that their case may be taken up again, this creates dissatisfaction among the whites, who in such cases think that I bring them here for the purpose of annoying them, This case of Wyatt's was, I understand, acted on & decided by Capt. Stevens my predecessor.
