Capt

I have the honor to make the following report in regard to the beating and shooting of a Freedman near this place referred to in my report on "Bureau Affairs in General" for the month of April 1867.

The following is the statement of the Freeman, (Henry Edwards) who was shot.

"On the morning of the of April about 4. O'clock, a party of men came to my house, knocked at the doors and demanded admission

For fear they would break the door down, I got up and opened the back door and two of them entered: they then ordered me to open the front door; I did so: they told me to make a light; I told them I had no light; one of them then struck me with his left hand
