Washington D.C. July 1. 1865.

Colonel.

Mr. Wm. Silvey of Alexandria has today called on me presenting a letter of yours to Col. Fullerton respecting the employ of the former.

Mr. S. is just the man I want for the city and county of Alexandria - the city in particular. He wants me to enquire of your what terms of agreement can be made so as to have the matter settled at once.

Please inform me as soon as practicable what compensation I may offer Mr. S. - then if acceptable to him I will put him on duty at once. The services of someone are needed much at Alex'a.

In this connection I want to ask if you can employ for me a clerk. A young man named Traverse who for two years has been Chf. Clk. for the Provost Marshal General. Defs. So. of Potomac (in whose office I was for a time) wants me to employ him as Clk.
