Washington. D.C. July 1. 1865. Colonel. The copy of Special Order No. 9. Par. 1. from your Hd. Qr. - June 24. 1865, assigning me to duty as Superintendent of R.F. & A.L. for Eleven (11) counties in Virginia, was received at Hd. Qr. of Bureau on the 29th ult. by me. Previous to that time I had been at the camp of my regiment settling my accounts, - that work is not yet completed but as my regiment is now at Fairfax Ct. House on duty I can do what remains to be done there at the same time that I am performing my new duties. Of the counties forming the "North-Neck" in my District, viz: - King George, Westmoreland, Richmond, Northumberland and Lancaster. I know but little. I consider that section the least important of my Dist. and shall give my first attention to the more important counties. As yet I have no assistance whatsoever, not even a clerk. I suppose I must depend upon Maj. Gen'l. Augus for the assistance I require. I am to have an interview with him today regarding the establishment of the Bureau within his Geographical Dist. in Virginia.
