There are in the county about four thousand (4000) acres of lands which will be transferred to the Bureau, in what state they are I am unable to say. An officer for that Sub. Dist. would need about twenty-five (25) mounted men with him. As troops are stationed in the county perhaps the sub. dists. of Fauquier and Prince William can be united. - I will see.

As none of the counties forming the other two sub. districts have [[crossed out]] T [[\crossed out]] any lists of lands nor am I able to make any report upon the state of affairs generally in them. As troops are stationed in them so far as I can ascertain and I shall need a strong escort to visit the lowly peninsular called the "North-neck." That is so far away and so hard to get at, that I fear it will bother me considerably. I have made one sub-dist of it but it may need more than one officer, and troops. It cannot still be divided up.

All the counties in my District last month belonged to the military department of Washington, Maj: Com. Augur commanding, - but they all now, with the exception of Alexandria and Fairfax belong to the Department of Virginia. From Gen'l.
