Washington, July 7th, 1865.

Col. O. Brown
Asst. Com'r &c

Dear sir,

Orders have been issued for my regiment to be mustered out of service and it will be sent to Massachusetts as soon as the rolls can be made.

Unless otherwise specially provided I shall be mustered out with my regiment. The question then arises at once with me, shall I go home or shall I endeavor in some way to remain in the service and retain my present position? If it is likely that I shall continue my present duties ofr a year or more I am rather inclined to remain as it is a good occupation and will be a good bureau opening while at the same time it is a work in which I take great interest.
