O.Brown Asst Commissioner Colonel: - Your telegram was secured last night and has just been replied to. The lands in Fairfax County of which you wanted more complete descriptions lie in every direction in the county, - all the assistance I could muster I have had to work [[strikethrough]] doing [[/strikethrough]] taking the descriptions and the reports are now being made out and will soon be forwarded. The attempt I made to get my muster-out did not work and Gen'l. Howard told me today that he had applied for a detail to relieve me. I am going to perfect in a day or two my arrangements to remain in the service and I do so expressly to continue on duty in this Bureau. I shall have rank sufficient - brevet if not otherwise, to retain
