Dear Sir
I arrived in Leesburg on the 24th but Mr Lybolt being too unwell to proceed, I was obliged to leave him at Vienna, with the intention of returning to Alexandria.

Mr Charles P. Janney is not in Town, so I have not been able to present the letter sent by you.

Yesterday, agreeable to your instructions I proceeded to take a Census of the Town. As a result of my labors, I took one hundred and seventy eight (178) names. This being the population (Negro) of about one third of Leesburg.

The movement excites a considerable amount of curiacity, and some opposition. Some of the People being unwilling to give any facts regarding the Colored People
