when that order came (Capt Fowler) I rented the house in which our Head Qrs are at present at the same price Smith was to pay.

V. Our transportation, stables &c were turned over to Capt Alvord by Capt Church AQM to Genl Slough and with them Capt A accepted and reemployed the two ostlers before employed by Capt Church and Capt Geo A Armes, who was assigned temporarily to the charge of the Dist in view of the leave of absence granted to Col Marsh who succeded Capt Alvord — employed one more, making the three employed as ostlers.  

VI. Before Col Marsh actually left he removed Capt Armes, and I was placed in charge of the Dist pro tempore and expecting to give it up on Col Marshs return, I made no change in any thing — save in the location of the Head Qurs referred to, but left all such matters for his decision, when he should return
