Colonel

I have the honor to report arrival here yesterday. I deemed it best, in view of reported difficulties, and breakage of R.R. near Farmville to proceed first to Danville, and get an understanding in regard to matters there.

As elsewhere in the district the troubles arising from abuse of the blacks by the whites, are diminishing. and, the organization of district under officers of the Bureau will I trust remove nearly all. The school is doing finely. But the congregation of young and helpless blacks seems too great, and I shall direct the officer assigned to Danville to give his earnest attention to all possible reduction immediately
