Davidson Special Treasury Agent, I find large amounts of lumber have been taken by citizens and used in repairing fences and houses. In two instances I have directed my clerk to receive full value in cash for the lumber rather than tear down the houses. One person paid sixty dolls the other five dolls in all sixty five dolls which I have carried to the credit of F. Bureau. N. Davidson, S.T.A. turned over to me six hundred dollars for which I receipted as Supdt F.B. In the above lumber cases I have acted as I deemed best for interests of the Bureau, but if in error will refund the money and take the lumber I am accumulating a stock of lumber
