James Phillips place was abandoned. The applicant S. W. Phillips joined and helped get up a Vol. Co. at the opening of the war. Aided and encouraged burning Hampton and other building and was worth over $20000

[[Geo?]] [[ onkers?]] Place was abandoned & confiscated he was the most active & influential fomenter of treason in the Co. He employed J. Williams & others in running off negros and in running the Blockade. Was an Officer in the Rebel Army.
Is worth over $20,000 and he was instrumental in getting his Son appointed as keeper of one of the rebel prisons in Richmond.
He also urged and aided Gen. Mcgruder in burning Hampton and a large number of the best houses on the Peninsula.
