Fort Monroe Sept. 8/65

Personal
Col. O. Brown

Dr. Sir.
Mr. Hunt seems to think strange you should send to me instead of him for investigation of saw mill, &c.

He is a neighbor & friend of mine and was abused by Col. Coughlin & Gen. Ord. He now seems to think hard of me for doing anything about it, though directed by you.

A. Just regard for the interest of the Bureau and the Govt. led me to express a doubt to you, as you will remember.

I refer you to a condition in Gen. Howard's recommendation of the acceptance

Yours truly
C. B. Wilder
