Extract from a letter of Rev JP Stone

"From a sense of duty I wish to say to the Committee thro' you; that the Quarters of Government school at Camp Hamilton are unfit, as they are, for teachers to live in. It was our living a few weeks in that building that so nearly ruined the health of us both. The ground upon which the house stands is damp, the floor very open, - no chance for circulation of air from outside beneath the floor, a well under the house of very bad, and even offensive smelling water, the air in the house is necessarily damp and unhealthy, more or less mixed with the poisonous malaria constantly rising from the ground and coming up through the open floors, through the cracks of which grass and weeds grow pale and sickly showing themselves in most of the rooms.
