that they be forced to go back to work for their former Masters whether they want them or not. or whether they will pay them fairly or not.

A great ado is made to the public ear about the unwillingness of the colored people to work or fulfill their contracts. We find no difficulty on that point, only when there are no contracts made. We have a neighbor who employs 50 to 100 men. He is constantly complaining that [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] he cannot depend on his help. When I show him the contracts & assured him we would enforce them when made fairly so as to hold or bind both parties, he dropped the whole thing, except complaining.
