Office Supt. Refugees &c. 9th Dist.,
Fort Monroe, Va., Nov. 19th 65.

Col. O. Brown.
Asst. Comr Freedmen's Bureau, State of Va,
Richmond, Va.,

Colonel.

I have the honor to state in reply to your communication of the 9th inst, calling my attention to the letter of George Tuckerman &c. that immediately upon the receipt of the case of Claiborne Johnson, I referred it to the Asst. Supt. of King William Co. Lieut S. W. Marshall, with directions to "investigate at once." This he neglected to do. and I called his attention to the matter several times. He made no report in the case till after he was relieved, when he stated "he had done nothing with it, and had lost the papers."

Claiborne Johnson, is living here. I will at once procure a statement of the facts, and as soon as an Asst. Supt. is stationed there, see if the claim can be adjusted.

I am Colonel, Very respectfully
your obedient servant
C. B. Wilder
Capt. and A.Q.M. and Supt. 9th Dist..
