Dear Sir

I drop a line back, as promised, when we have parted. Hope even this you have recovered from illness. We had a pleasant time home, [[strikethrough]]back[[/strikethrough]] finding things at Fortress Monroe not quite satisfactory to the General. But he had the facts, and will do, or try to do, what will be satisfactory to the best friends of the Negro. The course of the existing authorities worry him. The Govt school he did not like as well as he expected but just what  will be done that side of the river no one can yet say.

I had a good opportunity to push your matters with the General after the Boat left, he sees the importance of your having more rank in
