Norfolk Va Nov. 13 1865 Col o. Brown Comss &c Dear Colonel, You may recollect about the time when I got a month's Lease of my Store No 17 Main Str. The property is Wm E Taylor's, who was "Pardoned" on the 10th of Sept. Our lease is dated Sept. 29th, which is 19 days [[strikethrough]] ante [[/strikethrough]] after the date of his pardon. His property was not, however, turned over to him, from yr Bureau till last month - Octr - Now, dear Sir, I trouble you to ask you if our lease is good for anything? It, of course, all depends on whether your Bureau had a right to hold Mr Taylor's property after [[strikethrough]] y [[/strikethrough]] his pardon - which you did for over a month. If you will answer this you will confer a great favor on Your Respfl, & aff friend Walter McDaniels Care Wm Nichols & Co
