The officers elected seem intent only on seeking after colored people we as colored citizens feel less secure than before and during the rebellion we are afraid to move out in the night and when we move about in the day [[strikethrough]] & [[/strikethrough]] it is not without insult either insulting remark or white children throwing stones while we are passing. I do not know that I come within the provisions of the Freedmans Bureau as I was born free live on my own property - and never was before a Magistrate or Court in my life on any charge yet I suppose the Freedmans Bureau was established for the protection of the persons and property of the free people of color in the south we do not feel safe under existing circumstances and we beg that you would affect some arrangement by which we can be made more secure in our rights.
Very Respectfully yours
Elizabeth A. Harris
