In the Matter of Edwin Harrison's Petition

Referred for Investigation & Report

The undersigned have examined the matters of Edwin Harrison's Petition, referred to "Capt. W.F. White", one of the undersigned, on the 15th of Dec. 1865, and respectfully report the following statement:

Nathaniel Harrison, by his will, recorded in Amelia County Court Clerk's office on the 25th of Novr. 1852, amongst other things, devised to Frankey Miles, a free woman of color, by the 2nd Item of his will as follows: "Item 2nd.  I give to Frankey Miles, a free woman of color, the place on which I live, - that is to say the buildings with the land adjoining the same within the following boundaries to wit: commencing at James B. Howlett's line and running with the road to R.G. Anderson's line, thence down the said Anderson's line to the Jetersville road, thence down Nibb's Creek to John T. Prides' line, thence along the line between Jno. T. Pride & Jas. B. Howlett to the road, to her and her heirs forever."  This devise gave this land, which is the same spoken of in the Petition, to Frankey Miles in fee simple and absolutely, and, not "for her life and at her death to her heirs at law", as stated in the petition.  The said will makes various other bequests & devises to Frankey Miles and to her children and to some of her grandchildren, also reputed to be the children & grandchildren of Nat. Harrison, the
