Capt Stuart Barnes
A.Q.M. & Supt 2nd Dist

Sir
I have the honor to herewith transmit report of the Freedmen's Court, in case of Edwin Harrison (Col'd) claims for land. Complaints will no doubt be made that I (or we) investigated the case without his being present, He was notified to appear but refused, saying that it was to be tried before Col Brown. He was also present when the trial commenced but refused to stay claiming that he was not ready. The facts of the case are set forth in the report, while no mention is made of the family. They are free men of Color; and not, Freedmen: and are a trifling set and no particular credit to the County or their color. I am fully of the opinion that we have nothing really to do with the case; as it is as much a case for the civil courts as if both parties were white.

I am very respectfully your obt. Servt.
W.F. White Capt
& Ast Supt F.B.
