In response to the inquiries made by you asking what actions, if any, had been taken by the Circuit Court of this County in the suit pending in said Court styled Howletts legatees vs Howlett's Excr: I beg leave to submit the following as entered of record
 
Viz:
In Chesterfield Circuit Court November 3d 1863 Rebecca & children & other slaves emancipated by the will of Thos Howlett decd:  Plfs
Against
Benjamin Hatcher Excr: of Thos Howlett decd: Deft

This cause came on this day to Co. for the first time heard on the Bill and answer of the defendant, with general replication thereto, and in the exhibits filed, and was argued by Counsel. On Consideration whereof the Court doth adjudge order and decree that C C McRae, who is hereby appointed a special Commissioner for the purpose, shall withdraw from the papers in this cause, as they severally are or became due, the ten bonds in the bill described executed by Ro: Alvis to Thos Hatcher and by the said Hatcher assigned for the benefit of the Complainants in the manner in the bill more particularly recited, and, if the obligor shall insist in paying
