II As to the amount of service - Fredericksburg has been a depot for the Freedmen living in eight or ten surrounding counties - during the whole Summer and Fall a malarious and malignant disease -  which almost decimated the population - prevailed. I was the only physician who paid them attention - it can readily be concieved that I was constantly employed
