Norfolk Va. June 6th 1865 To Capt. O. Brown A.Q.M.} Asst. Commissioner State of Va.} Captain. I have the honor to call your attention to the following statement. On the 24th of November 1859 I moved a saw mill from the vicinity of Richmond to the "Ralliston estate" under a contract with Henry A. Wise (for sawing lumber) who represented himself to be the owner of the property; by the terms of this contract the mill, capital, and labor, was to be furnished by myself, and one fourth (1/4) the proceeds of all lumber sold was to be paid to Wise, he having no control over my sales [[strikethrough]] contracts [[//strikethrough]] or the management of the business.
