W. H. Parker as a principal and party with Wise to the contract.

In June 1861 when an order had been issued by the State Govt. for all men between the ages of 18 and 45. to be enrolled with the view to a draft, and as I was liable to be drafted under that order Ive enlisted to secure the privilege of choosing my company. I was in the service as a cavalry private about one year, when the conscript act was passed by the Confederate Govt. allowing all men in the service over thirty five (35) under this order I obtained my discharge and have since that time been living in south western Va. which was my home before coming to this section of the state.

After enlisting, through the representations of Mr. Marsh and other lumber dealers in the city of Norfolk I was allowed to be absent most of the time from my company to run the mill
