and the lumber sawed was delivered to parties who paid me for it and who I have reason to believe furnished the Confederate Govt. on contracts. When the Confederate troops evacuated Norfolk I left without an hours notice and had not time to make any arrangement of my business. I left on the place besides the mill, 2 carry logs, 2 four horse wagons, a large chest of carpenters tools and complete assortment of miscellaneous tools for carrying on the sawing business, all of which were my own personal property. I respectfully request that I may be put in possession of the mill and other property attached thereto to which I can prove ownership Very Respectfully Your Obt. Servant Robt. W. Larke
