Colonel
I will pay in cash for the wood & timber remaining upon the Beverley Gates lot formerly sold by him to the Rebel Government five dollars per acre.

You are aware that it had a steam sawmill running upon it for a long time cutting timber for that Government & that a large quantity of wood was also taken from it.

The lot being so small - about 280 acres - and so much having been taken from it and as nothing but the timber and wood belongs to the United States with a limited time allowed for getting it off I am satisfied that the above is a fair price. The early decision upon the matter will much oblige me.

Respectfully your Obt Servant,
D.J. Rich
