I have endeavored to impress on the minds of all those able to earn a support the importance of getting a home before Christmas, but those who are not able to ern their support I do not now what to do with them. I have not let them be turned out of doors as yet.
There seems to be a great desire among the Planters to get rid of the nonproductive ones and I am importuned daily and hourly with this question "what are we to do with the women and children?" Some of their Husbands have gone no one knows where others are supposed to be in the army. Now I would like to have you tell me explicitly what to tell these people. How are they to be feed and clothed and housed through the ensuing winter. I trust you will understand what information I need and will reply as soon as possible.
Yours Respectfully
