I have just heard of your hurried flight from Modest Town through Drummond Town to Cherrystone. As it is doubtful whether you received the letter I left for you at Drummond Town P.O. I annex a copy and extend the time of payment till the 10th inst. - if not paid I shall send a copy of the letter to Maj. Genl. Howard, Washington, to Col. O. Brown Richmond and to the Commander of the U.S. Forces, Pittsburgh.

We met at Fort Monroe last Sunday afternoon when you said you should go with me to the Eastern Shore the next day, and would pay me the money on our arrival there.

You did not go until Wednesday, and although you knew I was at Eastville in waiting, you pressed on immediately to this place - I followed you that night in the stage - saw you yesterday at 11 A.M., and
