Norfolk July 1, 1865

Col. Brown

Dear sir
I have been hoping to see you here this week. I leave for the North this afternoon. I leave all the furniture at the Hipkins house in good condition. I must necessarily leave it in the care of Mrs Hipkins subject to your order and disposal. I think that she will take good care of it, she has seen hard times, has seven children, of the F.F.V stamp, on her hands, and no means of support.
I think I would indulge her a little

Mrs W. sends her gratitude to you for the favor of a pleasant ride to Richmond and the many other favors you have shown us since we have been in Norfolk
I was thankful that you secured your desired appointment, but I think it will be the hardest duty of this war. Please remember us all to Mrs. B & the boys to the boy.
I am yours in haste (as you see)
W.R. Webster
