I have the honor to report, as the result of my mission North and East, under your order of July 19/65. that in Washington, Baltimore Philadelphia, and New York, very large numbers [[strikethrough]] are [[/strikethrough]] of colored families are represented as wanted, and that homes can easily be found for them with little or no cost to the government, but to be landed on their wharves, & provision made with Q. Master or Medical Department for temporary shelter and a little help for any one or more that may be taken sick on the way, or for any other reason, are unable to go out as laborers as soon as landed. In New York & Brooklyn when I found the most numerous & pressing calls, in order
