II. Capt. F. T. P. Crandon, A.Q.M. having, in accordance with Special Order No. 169, Par. 7. Hd. Qrs. Dept. of Va., of date June 23rd 1865, reported for duty in this Bureau, is hereby assigned to duty as Superintendent of R.F. & A.L. for the counties of Middlesex, King & Queen, Essex, Caroline, Spotsylvania, Orange, Hanover, Louisa, Goochland, Fluvanna, Albermarle, Green, Rappahannock, Culpepper & Madison.

The Sub District under your charge having been included within Capt. Flagg's District Capt. F. will take the charge of and receipt for the property in a few days.

You will hereafter report to him.

You will take possession of such abandoned or confiscated lands within your district, as may be necessary as homes for the destitute and helpless, and to furnish employment for such as cannot be otherwise provided for.

It will be desirable to have at least one of these homes established in each county, if lands can be found.

You will call upon the military commanders for such assistance as you may need.

You will ascertain at what time it is desirable for the present school term to close in Hampton and vicinity, (which will be, I presume, about the 1st of July), and order all of the schools to be closed at that time, including the "government school." Ascertain
