Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and A. Lands
Office Chief Med. Officer. State Va.
Richmond Va. May 29" 1866.

Special Orders.

Bvt. Brig. Genl. O. Brown Asst. Commissioner, Bureau RF. and A.L. State Va. having approved of the closing of the Hospital for Freedmen at Eastville Va. on the ground that the county in which the Hospital is situated (Northampton, Eastern Shore Va.) has agreed to take charge of its own Freedmen. The sick in the Hospital as rapidly as they can be moved with safety, will be turned over to the proper county authorities. The patients in Hospital from Accomac Co. (Eastern Shore Va.) will with the above mentioned precaution be turned over, to the authorities of that county. The same action will take place in regard to the small Pox Hospital or Ward, as with the General Hospital.

It is directed that the closing of all shall be effected at the earliest possible moment consistent with the ability of the sick to endure transferance. As A.A. Surg. Warner U.S.A. in charge of the Hospital, reduces his number of patients, he will in as strict proportion to this reduction as possible, reduce the number of his attendants, discharging them and sending their contracts to this office for annullment, to date from day of discharge, all will be discharged at the close of the Hospital. These attendants will be as usual paid on Muster and Pay Rolls of the month.
