Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and A. Lands
Office Chief Medical Officer State Va.
Richmond Va. May 19th 1866.

Circular.

As Several Medical officers on duty with the Bureau R F. and A. Lands, in this state have informed me of rumors of the discontinuance of the Bureau. I think it proper to state that there is no probability of its discontinuance at present.

Notwithstanding such rumors from time to time, Medical Officers will continue their efforts to keep Hospitals and quarters in the best possible order, improving present condition as much as possible.

I desire also to call attention to the manner of making out pay accounts, private and payrolls. Whether the money has been received on such accounts or not, they have been approved and are in the hands of the Quartermaster for payment, and each succeeding account, or roll, should commence from the termination of the period for which the previous one was made out. Only one copy of monthly report of [[strikethrough]] monthly [[/strikethrough]] attendants is required. Returns of Medical and Hospital property on hand are required in duplicate-for my Office and that of the Chf Med Off. at Washington, Quarterly and not monthly.
