Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands.
Washington, August 1st, 1867.

Circular Letter.

The following recommendations of a Board of officers convened "to recommend a proper classification of Agents, Clerks and other employees of this Bureau" with the amount of compensation for each grade are approved, and Ass't Commissioners of this Bureau are hereby directed to carry out the same within their respective jurisdictions from and after August 1st 1867.

One (1) Disbursing Officer for each State who shall be required to give bonds in the sum of six thousand dollars, at a monthly salary of $200,

One (1) Inspector for each state at a monthly salary of $150,

One (1) Superintendent of Schools for each state at a monthly salary of $150,

Such Sub Asst Commissioners and Agents as may be
