Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands.
OFFICE SURGEON-IN-CHIEF, DEPARTMENT OF THE POTOMAC,
RICHMOND, VA., February 16th, 1867.

CIRCULAR.

Medical Officers of the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, Department of the Potomac, in making requisitions for fuel for Hospitals under their charge, will reduce the quantity of fuel required for each fire, and the number of fires, to the lowest possible point, consistent with securing a proper degree of comfort to Hospital inmates.

The weather being more mild than during the earlier winter months, and most likely to be still more mild during the coming months of spring, a lesser quantity of wood and coal will probably be consistent with a proper degree of warmth. All possible economy in this, as also in other matters, consistent with the comfort of the sick, will be strictly adopted.
