NARA 8 [[right margin]] Nov'r 5/67 J. R. Powell [[/right margin]] Canton Miss Nov. 5th 1867 Maj Samuel S Sumner Jackson Miss Dear Sir Your favor of 26th Oct was handed me to day. I regret to say that the County is holy unable to provide for the paupers now in the poor house, as County warrants are not worth fifty cents in the dollars. I therefore trust that the U S. Government will make provission for the boy Taylor Yeloda that you allude to as well as others that are bound to suffer unless relief can be obtained from some source. I am now furnishing provissions to the poor house with but little prospect of being paid for some time to come. I am Very Respectfully Your Obt Sevt J.R. Powell Prest Board Police If you say so this boy will be carried to the Poor house but I know not how he [[right margin]] Nov 5/67 [[/right margin]]
