Knowing that on yesterday report was made to you of an unfortunate occurance at my place, I think it my duty to say to you that I am doing my best to keep the peace and to have justice administered, so soon as Mr C Johnson Jr, who, is working my place this year under contract with Freedmen killed one of them he came before & acknowledged that he had done it in self defense and gave himself up to the law. I immediately proceeded with the investigation and had taken two depositions when the Freedmen gathered in
